Meet Jennifer Alumbaugh, LMFT

Like any finely tuned machine, we ourselves—comprised of mind, body, soul, and spirit—require regular tune-ups. I call it, soul maintenance. Sometimes repairs are needed; sometimes we just need regular check-ups to keep everything running smoothly; other times we have to replace the parts that aren’t working; and sometimes most things are going well but we’d really like to amp up that one system or spiff up a particular feature. This is how I like to imagine the coaching process.

How is your soul maintenance?

Jennifer Alumbaugh

I am an experienced, trauma-focused, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, coach, consultant, speaker, and therapeutic mentor. I hold safe space for adolescents, adults, and couples to explore, to heal, and to enrich their lives.  My clients embody an array of diverse identities across cultures, spirituality and faith practices, genders, sexualities, and abilities. It is important to me to work within the framework of your values and I invite you to bring the whole of yourself into our sessions together. With compassionate care, centered in truth and kindness, and empowering encouragement I will walk with you through the difficult questions, challenging circumstances, and uncertain seasons.

I have extensive experience working with survivors of psychological and spiritual abuse; trauma/complex trauma (sexual violence, childhood & developmental/attachment trauma, interpersonal violence); and PTSD/complex PTSD. These, along with grief and loss work are my areas of specialization.  In addition to my specialization and general clinical practice, I am also certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (for child and adolescent clients ages 3-18) and Seeking Safety (for adolescent and adult clients ages 14+ with co-occurring PTSD and substance abuse) which are both trauma-focused Evidence Based Practice therapy intervention models.

When working with survivors of psychological and spiritual abuse, I center the recovery process and therapy work around the Six Stages of Recovery created and outlined by Shannon Thomas, LCSW in her book, Healing from Hidden Abuse.  I utilize this material with individuals, couples, and in groups through my 10-week Healing Support Circles.

Since 2001, I have worked with adolescents in Los Angeles County and in South and Central Texas—in foster care, in the juvenile justice system, and in school settings as a foster parent, therapist/therapeutic mentor, counselor, and coach.  I am a therapeutic mentor for the Girl Scouts of Central Texas Beyond Bars program—serving a population of girls all of whom have mothers who are in or have been in prison.

I believe you are the expert of your own mind, body, soul, and spirit; my role is to empower you to embrace your expertise and guide your life toward the goals and dreams you foster.

In addition to counseling and coaching, I immensely enjoy teaching through Professional Development Trainings and Consultation for agencies, organizations, and conferences. In 2015, I was invited as a speaker to provide trainings for Communities in Schools – Heart of Texas in Waco, TX; G. W. Carver Middle School in Waco, TX; Partners in Prevention Conference in Houston, TX; Strengthening Youth and Families Conference in San Marcos, TX. In 2016 I worked with the staff and professionals at Advocacy Center of Waco and Communities in Schools – South Central Texas in New Braunfels, TX with additional trainings forthcoming. My teaching style integrates dynamic didactic elements, a penchant for humor, and engaging exercises to convey information, collaborate solutions, and inspire growth.

I am currently licensed and in good standing with the State MFT Boards of Licensure of Texas and California and I am an AAMFT Clinical Fellow Member. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI and earned my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller School of Psychology in Pasadena, CA.

I look forward to meeting you and embarking on a journey of healing, growth, insight, and understanding together!
